*Warning: Spoilers for those that have not seen the season 3 premier of ‘Star Wars Rebels: Steps into Shadow’*
So, last night Star Wars Rebels returned to Disney XD with a Bang! As the galaxy far, far away brought a legendary foe into canon (Thrawn), we watched our young protagonist (Ezra) grow-up before our very eyes. Not just in appearance, but in his abilities to utilize and manipulate the Force as well. The amount of parallelisms between his character arc and those that have come before him (Anakin and Luke) are well portrayed and lay the foundations for his future as he takes his first Steps into Shadow during this one hour premier.
That said, I thought this introduction for Season 3 of Star Wars Rebels was well orchestrated and demonstrated the talents of the story group to tie-in the continuity of this remarkable universe. So, without further ado, I give you my personal Top Four Favorite Moments From ‘Star Wars Rebels: Steps into Shadow.’
- Ezra using the Force for malice? Well, in my opinion, this moment shows exactly how far Ezra would go in order to save his friends. On one hand, he is protecting those he cares about and on the other, he is abusing or misusing his abilities for greed and gain of power.
- Tarkin and Thrawn, on screen together! It’s as if millions of fans cried out in sheer joy and were suddenly … canonically satisfied. I have no words. I am without speech (yes, Seinfeld reference) — epic moment!
- Meeting Bendu … Tom Baker nailed this character! The exchange between Kanan and Bendu are magnificent — learn to see things differently — symbolism — transition. In my opinion, and again, I have no official sources, this will be a huge turning point for Kanan. It reminds me a lot of Yoda and Luke in Empire Strikes Back — only what you take with you.
- It’s a name drop, but an important one! General Dodonna. Yes, talk about continuity! Hera points out, that the Y-Wings aren’t for them, but for General Dodonna’s fleet/sector. Looks like we’re coming up to Rogue One a little quicker than I thought.
