As you know, the latest episode of Star Wars Rebels: “The Antilles Extraction,” aired last night (unless you were lucky enough to access it early via the Disney App) on Disney XD and I got to hand it to the story group, they managed to deliver another brilliant show! Making this 3rd installment of Rebels, one helluva ‘hat trick.’
*Spoilers ahead for those that have not seen the latest episode of Star Wars Rebels*
That said this was our first glimpse at how the Force doesn’t work. In other words, no mystical energy field at the helm for help, just a feisty Mandalorian, and a good blaster at her side. Simply put, Sabine kicks Imperial butt and then some. And another thing, she was a perfect fit for this mission. After all, she spent plenty of a time as an Imperial Cadet and knows how to blend in with her surroundings. Whether that’s due to her Mandalorian heritage or her firsthand experience with the Empire, she was the right choice. Also, on a side note, it was a great parallel to the upcoming film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, where I’m sure, we’ll see Jyn Erso doing something quite similar in that regard.
Ok, so let’s get to it. Here are my Top 4 Favorite Moments from Star Wars Rebels: “The Antilles Extraction” – Welcome to the Rebellion, Wedge!
- Sabine, going Rogue? – Well, if the flight suit fits. Loved seeing her in action and in a solo mission no less! Sabine Wren is everything I hoped she’d be and more. She’s cool and collected, and carries herself proudly no matter what cards are dealt her way. Even as she is carded, her credentials fail to pass the security check at first, but she quickly acts in a nonchalant way, as if this has happened before.
- Welcome to the Rebellion, Wedge! – Finally, we get some back-story on a familiar and well known character, Wedge Antilles. Once again, the talented story group does not disappoint and crosses over another fan-favorite without disrupting the continuity of the saga. Honestly, for me, it’s perfect! It not only ties in with the original trilogy, but it also connects with, Claudia Gray’s novel Star Wars: Lost Stars, nicely.
- Ezra parallels Anakin Skywalker – I can’t leave her! Once again, our young hero struggles with his emotions and ultimately, his attachments, namely Sabine. This moment, where we see our Rebels abandon their mission to save Sabine and her small entourage of recruits, shows a very distraught Ezra – as he struggles to compose himself and follow Kanan’s instruction by leaving Sabine to fend for herself.
- Agent Kallus – Tell Garazeb Orrelios we’re even. Talk about “Ah ha!” moments and a darn good one too! Come on, you know we’ve been waiting to see this or at least, something like it. Makes you wonder, is he playing the “double agent” card? A new Fulcrum for the Rebellion? I suppose only time will tell, but in the meantime, it’s fun to think about!
