*Possible spoilers for those that haven’t seen the latest installment of Star Wars Rebels: “An Inside Man”*
Last night, episode 10 from season 3 of Star Wars Rebels: “An Inside Man” aired on Disney XD. In last night’s episode, the Ghost crew returns to Lothal to team up with another rebel cell to plan an attack on an Imperial manufacturing plant. As usual, Kanan, Ezra, and Chopper, with a little help from a few friends (new and old), must improvise their plans in order to infiltrate the factory, get what they came for and get out.
And now, here are my 4 favorites from this episode!
The Return of Ryder Azadi—voiced by the incomparable Clancy Brown, Ryder returns as a mole for the rebels on Lothal. He gathers info and intel for Phoenix Squadron and relays it back to Hera. Not only that, he infiltrated the imperial assembly line in order to sabotage the speeder bikes so that, once they reach a certain speed, they will overheat and explode. Thank you, Ryder Azadi!
Thrawn at his most calculating—Grand Admiral arrives on Lothal to inspect the Imperial factory and find out why the failure rate of their vehicles is so high. As Thrawn weeds out the saboteurs, he simultaneously studies the mark of Phoenix Squadron in order to predict their next move. In my opinion, this is the most calculating we have seen Thrawn to date. He’s clearly showing why he is a Grand Admiral. By the end of the episode, Thrawn suspects the rebels are being aided by an ally, and assures Agent Kallus and Governer Price that this spy will be found, which brings me to…
Kallus is Fulcrum—as many of us suspected, Kallus admitted to being Fulcrum to Kanan and Ezra, while the three were inside a lift together. Of course, the only one to believe him right away was Chopper. With Kallus’ help, Ezra and Kanan were able to acquire the plans for a new Imperial weapon and relay them back to Hera and Sabine via Chopper. It looks like the time Kallus spent with Zeb on the Geonosian moon made a great impact on Kallus; it made him rethink his life. But the question is, does Thrawn know Kallus is the spy?
TIE Defender—for those of you like me, that played the TIE Fighter pc games back in the 90s, this was a fun reveal. The return of the TIE Defender! If the Imperials are able to mass produce these, the rebels are in BIG trouble. These ships, unlike most other TIE’s, have shields and a hyperdrive, which combined with their speed and weaponry, make them formidable. Honestly, being a fan of WWII fighter planes, this ship made me think of the Nazi jet fighter the Messerschmitt Me 262, which was the first operational jet fighter in the world. Just like the TIE Defender, it was way ahead of its time. Fortunately, for the good guys, the Nazi’s were unable to mass produce these due to their high price and their lack of materials towards the end of the war.
